Warren Edward Buffett (born August 30, 1930) is an American investor, businessman, and philanthropist. He is arguably the greatest investor of all time and the largest shareholder and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. He was ranked by Forbes as the richest person in the world during the first half of 2008, with an estimated net worth of $62.0 billion.

Often called the "Oracle of Omaha," or "the Sage of Omaha", Buffett is noted for his adherence to the value investing philosophy and for his personal frugality despite his immense wealth.

Buffett is Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and arguably the greatest investor of all time. His wealth fluctuates with the performance of the market but as of 2008 his net worth was estimated at $62 billion, making him the richest man in the world.

Buffett is a value investor. His company Berkshire Hathaway is basically a holding company for his investments. Major holdings he has had at some point include Coca-Cola, American Express and Gillette. Critics predicted an end to his success when his conservative investing style meant missing out on the dotcom bull market. Of course, he had the last laugh after the dotcom crash because, once again, Buffett's time tested strategy proved successful.

Warren Buffett is a proponent of value investing, which looks to find stocks that are undervalued compared to their intrinsic value. Financial metrics like price/book (P/B), price/earnings (P/E), return on equity (ROE) and dividend yield carry the most weight on the Buffett scales. In addition, he seeks out companies that have what he calls " economic moats " - high barriers to entry into a business.
